SEAL DESIGN AND FUNCTION
The Trelleborg 404 is a combined lip and compression
sealing
system that is positioned in the groove of corrugated pipe.
Symmetrical by design, there is no chance of error when mounting
the seal onto the pipe. The material and design allow for the lowest
possible jointing force.
Once jointed, the Trelleborg 404 will absorb any permissible variation
in pipe geometry whilst maintaining a high sealing performance.
The material chosen, EPDM vulcanized rubber, offers excellent
resilience, strength and resistance to abrasion and materials
present in wastewater. This makes it the perfect choice for
non-pressure underground drainage and sewage systems.
The Trelleborg 404 meets or exceeds current
international standards.

Clean the socket and 1

spigot groove and mount
the seal into the groove.
Apply lubricant to the
seal before assembly.
Slide the spigot into
the socket, thus com-
pressing the sealing lip.
The seal is self-locking,
after assembly the
pipes remain jointed
(no push-back).
When the pipes are assembled, the rubber sealing
element is designed to deform. This creates
pressure on both spigot and socket, ensuring a
watertight seal.
Pipes with Trelleborg 404 seals must be laid
in accordance with applicable standards and
regulations.
