Moisture Measurement
The MS100 and MS150 series Moisture Meters are designed to test both wood and building
materials. The MS100 uses Dual Pins that must be inserted into the material being tested. The
MS150 uses either Dual Pins, or a “Pinless” sensor which is located on the back of the tester.
Be sure to read these instructions all the way through before you use your new Moisture Meter.
WARNING!!!
The Pins are extremely sharp and can cause injury.
Always follow the instructions to prevent injury
to yourself, others, and to the meter.
USING YOUR MS100/150
The Pin Cover is designed to remain in place during transport. The pins are extremely sharp
since they need to penetrate wood and construction materials, so it is important that you
develop a technique for removing the cover that will minimize your risk of injury. Here is what
we recommend:
1. Grip the Moisture Meter firmly in the palm of your non-dominant hand, with your thumb
and forefinger positioned at each side (i.e., left/right, not front/back) of the Pin Cover.
2. Brace the bottom of the tester against your abdomen/stomach.
3. While gently but firmly applying upward pressure to the side of the Pin Cover with
the thumb of your non-dominant hand, with your dominant hand, use a #3 flathead
screwdriver to very gently pry the bottom corner of the Pin Cover nearest to your
thumb. Make sure your forefinger of your non-dominant hand remains firmly secured
against the opposite side of the Pin Cover while you are doing this so the cover doesn’t go
flying off.
Always replace the Pin Cover when you are finished using the device.
REMOVING THE PIN COVER
1. Power the Tester on by pressing and holding the Power Button for 3 seconds.
2. Remove the Pin Cover.

select either the Log icon for testing wood, or the Brick Wall icon for testing building
materials (e.g., sheetrock).
4. Perform a Self-Test by inserting the Pins into the Pin Holes on the cover. Confirm the
reading is between 17% and 19% if you have selected Wood, and 15.5% and 17.5% if you
have selected Building Materials.
4. Insert the Pins into the material you are testing.
5. Press the Lock/Beep Button to freeze the reading on the screen.
6. Withdraw the tester from the material.
